Have you ever wished you could travel back in time to listen to a Christian speak? Maybe fire up that DeLorean, hit 88 mph and go back to catch one of C.F.W Walther’s sermons in Missouri; or travel a bit further to hear Augustine teaching in Hippo. While Amazon hasn’t started selling the flux capacitor just yet, there is a way for you to catch a sermon from a well-known theologian that preached right around 500 years ago.
Pastor Bryan Wolfmueller, the Pastor of Hope Lutheran Church in Aurora, Colorado, has gone about the task of taking you to the congregation of Dr. Martin Luther. In his podcast “Martin Luther’s Sermons,” Pastor Wolfmueller reads through sermons from Martin Luther’s Church Postil, a collection of sermons given by Martin Luther, first compiled in 1544. A single sermon is read in each episode, allowing you to listen as if you were a member of Luther’s congregation. Before each sermon Pastor Wolfmueller sets the stage by giving the bible readings for that Sunday and when the sermon was preached in the church year. From here he lets Luther speak for himself, not muddying up the water with any discussion or commentary. The episodes average out a little under 15 minutes each which makes them perfect to listen to at the start of your day or even on your drive to work. And remember, no one will judge you if feel the need to listen to two or three sermons in one sitting.
